“Water is powerful. It can wash away earth, put out fire, and even destroy iron. Water can carve it’s way through stone. And when trapped, water makes a new path…Water is the driving force of all nature.” -Leonardo da Vinci
Beautiful weather like this calls for some outdoor playing! Picture this; Perfect weather, warm with a cool breeze, hiking with the family, rock climbing with the kiddos, and kayaking on the lake. All we need is a couple snacks and drinks and let’s go.
WAIT! Rewind a step to those drinks.
These aren’t just any drinks, lets grab a couple bottles of water; then add an herbs and fruit log freezer packet for flavor and now we’ve got the perfect pure, great-tasting and totally refreshing drink for our hike…
30 goals by age 30
“You can’t cross the sea merely by standing and staring at the water” -R. Tagore
What is that one thing you have always wanted to do? Is there one activity you always wanted to participate in? What’s that secret dream that one day you hope you will accomplish?
When I turned 29 I was in a very ugly place mentally/ emotionally. I had spent the past year dealing with the biggest betrayal I thought my heart could ever be hit with and I was feeling down and depressed. My therapist told me it was time to take back me, it was time to find Juli again. She challenged me to make a list of “Juli goals” for the next year and then work hard to achieve them.
That was when my “30 by 30” list was created. It was full of things I enjoy but never make the time for and then things I’ve always wanted to do but never had the backbone to try. Some things on the list included:
- Rock Climb 30 routes in one year
- Sky Diving
- Learn to Surf
- Make a lemon-creme Cronut
- Ride 100 miles on bikes with the kids throughout the year
- Do a flip on the trampoline
- Stunt Driving lessons
- Learn to paint
- Golf Lessons
- Hike one new trail each month
- Go Fishing
- Learn how to Kayak
- Try out for a play
- Service. Do service for others and then more importantly; teach my children through example the joy and importance of leading an unselfish life.
“I want to be like water. I want to slip through fingers but hold up a ship.” -M. Williams
Reader, can I just tell you; that list saved me! Seriously, the combination of being physically active and then doing good for others was exactly what I needed to pull me from that ugly funk.
Here’s the thing; you don’t have to be suffering from depression to decide to work to better your life…
Don’t we all have those things we’ve always wanted to do but never dared try? Don’t we all have those secret dreams that we don’t count as dreams because they are small or things that other people do everyday?
Well my friends: I challenge you to do them! Think of what and who you want to be, and then do it in the purest way possible! Now don’t cheat yourself.
“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot it becomes the teapot. Now, remember, water can flow and it can crash. Be water my friend.” – Bruce Lee
Be water my friend! Think of what shape, what person, what goal you want to be and then… be water.
(I secretly feel like a zen master or something equally awesome right now! Hahaha!)
Water for an active lifestyle
“I water you, you water me; we grow together.” -B Nembhard
When I first started in on my “30 by 30” I realized quickly that most of my goals were in fact goals that would make mine more of an “active” lifestyle. And I learned that when you are consistently using good weather days to hike or climb or kayak, it is important to always have water on hand.
One long hike without proper hydration taught me that lesson real fast in the hard way.
Word from the wise: I keep a case in the back of my car, then I always have water on hand.
Trick to getting kids to drink more water
“To some it’s just water. To me it’s where I regain my sanity…”
Unfortunately, keeping water in the back of my car didn’t guarantee always having cold water and getting my kids to drink it warm is a rough go. Hence the creation of these lovely and oh-so-fabulous fruit and herbs ice cubes for water bottles!
You guys, this has been a game-changer.
My new routine when it’s time for some outdoor play?
- Dress in the right attire.
- Grab a baggie of fruit and herbs ice sticks from the freezer.
- Jump in the car and add the fruit and herbs ice cubes to a good brand of water.
- Go play: hike, rock-climb, kayak, rollerblade, etc…
- Get done with this play (exercise), look in the mirror and say “Girl you so awesome!”
“Women need food, water, and compliments. Oh, that’s right! And an occasional pair of shoes.” -Chris Rock. (Check, check, check, and check.)
Fun Fruit and Herbs Ice Combinations:
Making these fruit and herbs ice cubes is simple. The funnest part is creating fun combinations. Some of my family favorite combinations include:

- Blackberries and Mint (Like a mojito!)
- Watermelon and Rosemary
- Blackberries and Sage
- Pineapple and Mint
- Watermelon and Kiwi
- Cucumber and Strawberry
- Cucumber and Watermelon

- Strawberry and Mango
Really the possibilities are endless and the herbs and fruit ice is easy to make. Create your own combinations and share them with me guys; I totally want to hear your great ideas!
Ice cube Stick Molds
I found my water bottle ice stick molds here.
Another fun idea when creating your fruit and herbs ice sticks is to add citrus juices and other ingredients for fun detox, flush and body booster combinations. Some fun combinations I do in my “Mommy Ice Cubes” include:
- Lemon, mint and cucumber
- Blueberry and lemon
- Orange, lemon and strawberry
- Apple and cinnamon
- Mint, lavender and lemon
- Ginger, pear and cinnamon
- Lime, Raspberry and Mint
- Orange and kiwi
“Sometimes we are taken into troubled waters not to drown but to be cleansed.”
Okay y’all, making these ice sticks is as easy as 1-2-3-4:
- Chop up your fruit and herbs.
- Lay the herbs in the bottom of the ice tray with the fruit on top.
- Lightly pour water atop the herbs and fruit then place tray in freezer until frozen.
- When you’re ready to play; place fruit and herbs ice sticks in bottles of Nestle Pure Life water and get to it!
See what I mean? So super easy for a simple but delicious exercise treat that I promise you are going to love.
“Water does not resist. Water flows. When you plunge your hand into it, all you feel is a caress. Water is not a solid wall, it will not stop you. But water always goes where it wants to go, and nothing in the end can stand against it. Water is patient. Dripping water wears away a stone. Remember that, my child. Remember that you are half water. If you can’t go through an obstacle, go around or climb over it. Water does.” -Margaret Atwood
Be water my friends! Make your “30 by 30” (even if you’re already 60!) and then get to gettin’ and be water!
