Tangy grapes and a sweet sauce with the perfect amount of candied pecan crunch. This grape salad recipe bursts with flavor in every bite. Grape salad with crunchy candied pecans is a light and refreshing way to satisfy your sweet tooth.
At the “fancy” restaurant in our little town, they have a house specialty. It’s a handful of grapes in a most delicious white sauce. They serve it in these pretty little white ramekins, and you can have it as your starter or your dessert. Those ramekins probably aren’t big enough. You eat it, and after the first bit, all you want for dinner is more and more and more grape salad! “Forget the fancy steaks they’re famous for. GIVE ME MORE GRAPE SALAD!!!”
For reals, the first time I tried that grape salad, I stopped at the grocery store on our way home from the restaurant. I HAD to recreate this recipe! So I searched the internet and found similar recipes for the salad. Guess what? I learned that the perfect sauce that complimented the sour tanginess of the grapes so beautifully was a cream cheese and sour cream mix.
Going from Good, to Better, all the way to Best!
The recipes I found online were just too sweet for my tastes, and they were missing something. Citrus in the sauce to lighten it! I got to work honing that sauce to perfection.
Well, once having recreated the sauce, I had to take our grape salad from good to better. It was great, however, it needed some crunch in every bite. Why? Because while some of the grapes were crunchy, that wasn’t always the case. Enter nuts. Most of the online recipes had suggested pecans; I like that idea, but hey- If we’re gonna be nuts, we might as well be sweet nuts! Especially since I had removed much of the sugar originally called for in the sauce. So, let’s go from better to best and candy those pecans!!! I used this Taste of Home recipe to candy my own pecans. I made a double batch and have been snacking on them like crazy y’all! Yum!
Y’all. Make this. The only thing you’ll regret is not having made a triple batch. I am seriously “nuts” over this grape salad, and you will be too!
Serve it alongside your Holiday Turkey to lighten the feast up a bit!
