There’s nothing so wonderful as fresh homemade rolls, warm from the oven.
These light, fluffy, buttery rolls are so incredibly delicious! And this simple buttery bread dough is very versatile. I use it for not just dinner rolls, but also my cinnamon rolls, orange rolls, and breadsticks.
Mixing the dough in your bread machine makes this recipe so delightfully simple, you’ll be left wondering how you ever got by without this amazing roll dough recipe.
Are you thinking “Bread-maker bread is inedible rather than incredible!”?
When I first got married, we had a bread machine. I hated that thing. I didn’t understand how anyone could like the bread that came from said machine. The bread that came from that machine was dough-like mush on the inside and hard as a rock on the outside.
I have an Aunt who is known for making the most incredible home made bread you’ve ever tried. Being a newly married woman, and wanting to be super duper domestic, I thought I definitely needed to know how to bake bread. My Aunt came and spent hours teaching me the ins and outs to her bread recipe. I took meticulous notes. I was determined. The bread that day was amazing. Funny thing though; I have NEVER been able to duplicate that success since. Ha! It’s probably because yeast is my nemesis.
Years later, I somewhat last minute invited a friend’s family over for dinner. She said they would bring rolls. I was thinking store bought. Instead she showed up at my house with fresh baked soft fluffy goodness!
Thinking back to my hours long bread making class, I asked “How in the heck in the world did you make rolls that fast?! It’s only been 2.5 hours since I invited you. They were already in the works, weren’t they?”
Nope.
Lightbulb Moment!
Did you know your breadmaker has a nifty setting for dough only? Or at least most bread machines have that option. I use this bread machine, that I highly suggest because I love it so much!
However, there are lots of less expensive options out there as well. The dough setting is just the greatest thing because then it gets to deal with yeast’s finicky self (seriously I hate yeast!), and leaves you with fabulous dough that you can shape into the bread of your choosing (depending on your dough recipe of course).
How to do it:
(Actual recipe found below this quick summary)
Y’all, this is so easy! All you need is a good recipe (which I am totally providing), then you pour all your ingredients into your breadmaker, select the “regular- dough” setting, wait a couple hours, roll out that fabulous dough into something incredible. Let rise for a bit. Then bake.
Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- 1 cube butter
- 1 cup milk
- 1/4 c sugar
- 3 TBS brown sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 4 c all purpose flour
- 1.5 TBS instant yeast
Instructions
- In that order, place ingredients in bread machine, ending with the yeast at the very top above the flour.
- Set bread machine to regular dough cycle.
- Wait (usually a little less than 2 hours.
- When finished, let dough rise for an extra 30 minutes in machine,
- then remove dough and on a lightly floured surface, roll out dough and cut to shape.
- Let rise 1.5 hours (less if your house is very warm, and more if it's cold).
- Cook 12-14 minutes or until lightly golden brown, at 350 degrees F.
- Let rest 10 minutes before eating.
Voila! Beautiful mouthwatering rolls that you’ll want to make for every Sunday dinner, Holiday meal, and pretty much any other excuse you can think of…
These beautiful dinner rolls will go great with Sunday night Pasta, like this yummy butternut squash ravioli. And be sure to serve them up along side your Holiday Turkey (If you are in need of a recipe for that, be sure to check out this delicious Herb Roasted Turkey!)!
