Hello, sweet tooths! I’m thrilled to share my latest dessert recipe with you: Summer Peach Pastry Tartlets. These are the perfect treat for peach lovers and are sure to become your new favorite summer dessert. Let’s dive in!
(PS: the recipe is at the very bottom of this post!)
The Importance of Preheating Your Oven when baking with Puff Pastry
First things first, always preheat your oven for at least 15-20 minutes before baking. Puff pastry relies on even heat to rise and puff beautifully. Skipping this step can lead to uneven baking and disappointing results. So, make sure your oven is nice and hot before you place your tray of summer peach tartlets in the oven.
Fresh and Cooked Peaches
This tartlet is a peach lover’s dream because the end product has a combination of both fresh and cooked peaches. The cooked peaches become soft and sweet, then offering that warm, comforting flavor we all love in baked desserts. Then when you take the tartlets from the oven, you add fresh peach slices. Adding thin slices of fresh peaches on top provides a burst of freshness and a slightly tart, toothsome bite. This combination gives you the best of both worlds in every delicious bite.
How to pick good peaches
To make these tartlets truly amazing, you need the best peaches. Here’s how to pick them:
- Color: Look for peaches with a golden yellow, red, or blush pink color. The skin near the stem should have a bright golden hue.
- Smell: A ripe peach will give off a sweet aroma. If it smells good, then it’s likely to taste good too.
- Feel: Ripe peaches should be slightly soft and give a little when gently squeezed. Steer clear of peaches with shriveled skin, it’s probably old or was chilled after being harvested.
- Shape: Ripe peaches become rounder as they ripen. A nicely rounded peach is a good sign it’s ready to eat.
The Best Summer Dessert
Here’s a quick rundown of how to make these heavenly tartlets:
- Layer: Start by layering butter, brown sugar, sliced peaches, puff pastry, and cinnamon sugar.
- Bake: Pop it in the oven until the puff pastry is browned and slightly crisp.
- Flip: Carefully remove from the oven and then slide a spatula underneath. Flip the whole pastry over, just like you would with a pineapple upside-down cake.
- Top: Add a few thin slices of fresh peaches on top and then finish with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
And that’s it! These Summer Peach Pastry Tartlets are easy to make and absolutely delightful. They’re perfect for a summer gathering or a simple, sweet treat to enjoy any time.
I hope you love these tartlets as much as I do. Give them a try and let me know what you think. Happy baking!
