Grilled Chicken Gyro in a greek pita with delicious refreshing homemade Tzatziki that will knock your socks off!
Dear reader, I know you’re here for the recipe. What’s about to follow this paragraph and picture is going to be some blah blah blahing on my part. Should you choose to skip to the pink outlined recipe at the bottom of the page: I will totally understand! However you may (or may not) miss out on something deep and/ or hilarious.

Do you have siblings? I have 9 of them. We all have different strengths, weaknesses, and talents. However the one thing we all have majorly in common: we love to tease each other!
The ribbing became the worst when I was in high school. Oh Nelly! The teasing never ended over who I had a crush on or what dumb thing I said or did most recently. (There were a lot of those moments so my family really enjoyed teasing me. I should tell you about when I was told to double space a paper for debate…).
Well, if teasing is hereditary then that trait passed on strong in my household.
Love love love…
This morning as I was trying to think of what to write in this post (because to be honest I am running out of hilarious stories and poems like the ones found in my Mexican Street Corn recipe and my Pulled Pork recipe.), I overheard my three year old start teasing her seven year old sister about loving a boy.
How in the world did she learn that?! Where would she even know about love? Who taught her how to use that teasing voice and say things in that joking manner?
As these questions ran through my head, I heard my seven year old get more and more worked up about how she was NOT in love.
“I should go stop that” I thought. And then I stayed where I was and listened some more…
What makes a good parent?
Guys, do you know what’s rough? There is no recipe for or instruction manual for amazing parenting.
Even now, hours later I sit here wondering if I should’ve intervened.
On the one hand, my seven year old worked it out on her own and left the room. However; On the other hand, did I just teach my three year old that it’s okay to tease and bully because she will get away with it?
I don’t know.
You’re probably wondering what this story has to do with greek tacos, aka gyros; again the answer is I don’t know.
What I do know is these greek gyro’s are delicious and the tzatziki is insanely good!
Enough talk, Let’s Eat!
Recipe for Greek Chicken Gyro with Tzatziki:
Save RecipeIngredients
- Pitas
- Grilled Chicken
- Cucumbers, peeled and sliced
- Tomatoes, sliced
- Red Onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
- 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 4 TBS Cucumber, minced tiny
- 2 TBS Red or White Wine Vinegar (preferably White)
- 2 TBS Dill, minced small
- 1-2 TBS Mint, minced small
- Salt and Pepper to taste
Instructions
- Combine the cucumber and Vinegar and let sit for 2 minutes. Then add remaining ingredients and mix well.
- Brush a thin layer of the Tzatziki over the top surface of the pita.
- Layer in the meat and vegetables.
- Add More Tzatziki to taste.
- Enjoy!
